BYP Kids was established with the idea of the return of the family pediatrician of yesterday while incorporating the new office based medical technology of today.

BYP Kids is here solely because of the families that decide Dr. Connery is the pediatrician for their children. We hold this in high regard and try to accommodate everyone as soon as possible. Please understand that if you decide to email us you might not receive an answer right away. If this is an emergency, please dial 911. If there is something you need to talk to us about right away, please call us during our business hours.

Although we are not an after hours clinic, we recognize that a traditional 9-5 practice will leave some parents with fewer options. For that reason, we may offer later appointments on some days according to demand. Also, while we do not take walk-in appointments, our same day scheduling is very good.

Entering our office you will find a professional yet casual atmosphere. Recognizing that mixing healthy and ill children in the same environment is not the best of ideas, we may ask parents to call from their vehicle prior to entering the office. Also since children can be more susceptible or more contagious than average, our exam room to physician ratio is four to one, allowing those children to be directed to an open room upon arrival.

Although we try to make your visit as expedient as possible, we recognize that at peak times and seasons, your wait time may be extended. To that end, in addition to the children’s books and television, we offer complimentary WiFi access in our office.

From check-in to check-out your visit will be documented in our Electronic Health Record. Improving legibility and safety, this system offers electronic prescribing, reducing errors and prescription wait times. In addition, should you desire, you will be given online access to you medical record. Can’t remember what the medication your child was on three months ago? With this system you are just a few mouse clicks away.

And the technology doesn’t stop with the computer. Want to check your 12-month-olds vision and hearing? Normally you would have to wait until Pre-K to even have a chance to do so. In the meantime, your child’s opportunities for early intervention diminish month by month. With our Welch-Allyn reflex vision and hearing screeners, we can determine if your child is at risk for learning delays caused by vision or hearing defects.

Located first in Hobart, later in Merrillville, BYP Kids is at the center of medical care in eastern Lake County. With the physician and staff being residents of the region themselves, we know the needs of the area.
